SNOW GALORE!

So...we got the snowstorm that was expected for the weekend. I was pretty skeptical considering nothing had happened as of Friday. Saturday I had to haul recruits to downtown St. Paul to hang out for the afternoon - we had a long lunch at The Liffey and then walked to the Science Museum. It was probably easier than reparking all of the vehicles, but the walk was slippery and windy! We figured that the winds would at least be at our backs on the walk back to the cars, but by then it was just blowing everywhere and we were stuck walking against it again. By the time I dropped the recruits off at their hotel and got home, I was happy to be cozy in our house! This morning I woke to find LOTS of snow everywhere - our driveway is going to be hell to shovel out!! Then I remembered we'll probably have to make the trek down to the end of the driveway just to find our Star Tribune (since the delivery guy was definitely not going to make it to our front door!). That's when I noticed that our mailbox was gone - the vertical post is still there, but the box and the horizontal post that it sets on is completely missing! Hopefully it's under the snow somewhere, but more than likely it's a few miles down the road where it finally was deposited by the snow plow that knocked it off in the first place. So now, we not only have to shovel out, but we have to find our mailbox and try to reattach it! UGH - where the hell is spring??

Cat Memo

The other day I wrote that I was mildly surprised that both the animals managed to stay out of my hair while I was working from home. Turns out, we came home after dinner and a movie to find that Syd had been locked into one of the closets for the entire afternoon and evening! He was fine, though, he probably just crawled into one of the suitcases and made himself at home.

My little brother is 21!

Can't believe it, but my little brother, Stephen, is finally 21! My hubby and I are invited over to his house for a big party to celebrate - one of is his roommates is also turning 21 this weekend. The thing is, it's a theme party. You have to come dressed as either Steve or Sean (his roomy). This would be pretty easy, considering they are both poor college boys that live in jeans, t-shirts, and sweatshirts. But honestly, the whole theme party thing seems to be getting out of control! We were invited to a themed Saturday Night Live Cocktail party before Christmas and last weekend we went to a 30th birthday party downtown that had a "CEO bros and Office Hos" theme. Fun, yes, but it's getting to be exhausting!! Oh well, if we do manage to get ourselves up for going to the 21st party tomorrow, we'll be all decked out as my little brother - it should be interesting. I'm a little frightened about how crazy it could get, so we'll have to go early so that we can leave before it gets too out of hand! Check out what happened on his friend's 21st last month!

Working from home

Today I had the joy of working at home. All of my experiments fell through for the end of the week and all I had left was to grade about 40 assignments for the class I'm TAing this semester. As exciting as that sounds, let me tell you, it wasn't. I swear my eyes started to cross after the first 5 or so - too many amino acid translations and unitalicized bacterial names (one of my personal pet peeves!). Thank god I had multiple episodes of Friends, Will & Grace, and Guiding Light to keep me company! Luckily, I was able to make it through all of them, so I'm officially free for the weekend (except for the journal club presentation I have to put together - the fun never ends). Staying home was great because I was able to clean the kitchen and keep the laundry going - the cat and dog even managed to stay out of my hair - Syd fell asleep on our bed for the day and Jonas was over rough-housing with the wolf dog in the neighbor's yard. (Yep, the invisible fence is officially NOT working.) P.S. For those of you that don't know what a wolf-dog is, I've included a picture from Google.
