So Blessed

The entire family (pets included) made it back up to the cities yesterday after spending a whirlwind of a week back in southern MN. We took time to unpack all of the shower gifts onto the dining room table, but have yet to actually figure out where to put everything! Here's a shot of the loot, and this doesn't include the bigger items - stroller/car seat system, pack 'n play, high chair, bouncer, activity mat, etc. Whew! What a great day - we are so blessed to have great friends and family that were willing to throw us an awesome shower (and haul all of our gifts back to our house so that we could head south immediately after the shower) and to help us get ready for baby Uno! 5 weeks and counting...

First shower gift! And a card from our nephew!

We received our first shower gift in the mail today from our friends Kristi and Tony, who are now in Columbus and therefore won't be able to join us! Looks like Baby Uno is ready for bath time, and has another great blanket, which will come in handy in these upcoming cold months! Thanks guys!!

Also - we got this card from our nephew, Alex. He was obviously sounding things out - I love how Uncle David is actually Uncool David. Too cute!

So excited for the baby shower!

Our wonderful friends are hosting a big baby shower for us this Saturday and I cannot wait! They came up with Alice-themed invites that are super cute and they obliged my ridiculously long list of friends (and some family) to invite. Since the hubby and I don't go in for the whole girls-only shower thing (he was at all the wedding showers, too), this shower is co-ed. We're really looking forward to getting some great gifts for the baby, plus we can't wait to see everyone that's coming up for it! My cousins from Wisconsin are even coming over for it - and we get to take care of a wedding dress fitting for Missy in the morning beforehand. Plus, I have a feeling the shower will segue-way into evening festivities with whoever is available. Should be a great day!

My former boss, the terrorist

Thanks to Laura for finding this blog post- Swine Flu Tied to U of Minn Bioweapons Program? Evidently our former boss is responsible for starting the H1N1 pandemic.

The only thing I can figure is that since the BBC map she links to shows all of the cases in the US originating somewhere in upper Minnesota (not at the U of MN, after all), she decided that meant there must be some tie to the U. However, if she were to pay attention at all, she would realize that the first two confirmed cases that show up on the map were actually in California, and for graphic purposes only are all of the cases originating from Minnesota. I'm guessing they just picked that spot so as to not overlap too much with the cases in Mexico.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to spout off their random (and wildly inaccurate) beliefs to the general public.

32 weeks, 4 days

And here's the photo from 2 weeks ago...

Stupid H1N1...

As if dealing with the stress of getting vaccinated for the H1N1 virus wasn't enough, last night at our preparing for birth class we found out that our maternity ward tour was canceled. The hospital is enforcing a stricter visitor policy indefinitely, including no children under the age of 5 in the hospital, but also canceling any tours of the maternity ward to reduce the risk of infection. I suppose I'll be happy about that when it's my turn to be in the maternity ward, but right now I'm just annoyed that they won't let us see it! Obviously if one of us was that sick, we shouldn't even be in class...and if nothing else we could wear masks as we walk through the ward, right? Bah!

Gophers vs. Illinois

The game did not go quite as expected, but we did get to enjoy the beautiful weather! It was especially nice since it was warmer (and sunnier) than any of the October games!

The day after Daniel's 21st...all of the guys survived, but were a little worse for wear (and yes, my hubby was convinced to go out with the young guys for the night!).

My belly is quite a bit bigger than the first game...

My baby brother's 21 today!

Wow. I feel old. My littlest brother is 21 today - we're taking him out for juicy lucy's at the Blue Door Pub in St. Paul for supper tonight, then my other brother (the one that's already legal, but still young enough to drink copious amounts of booze in one evening) is taking him out on the town for the night. The hubby and I decided we would skip that part - especially since I can't partake in the drinking end of things and we both have to be up early for tailgating tomorrow morning!

We did, however, put together a pretty fantastic (if I do say so myself) birthday gift. We found this ridiculous ceramic pig planter and filled it with 21 shooters - he'll literally have to shake them out to get at all of them!

He just stopped by to visit me in my glamorous new office (heavy sarcasm here), and I warned him to drink LOTS of water this afternoon and to not take any cold medicine, which I'm pretty sure he was planning on doing. Based on my hubby's prior experiences mixing cold meds and alcohol, I hope I sufficiently scared him into listening to me!

12 Days of Christmas

12 Days of Handmade Christmas

Just wanted to share a link to this great blog that is featuring handmade Christmas gift ideas for the first 12 days of November. I've been following the ideas, and they're all pretty great!

No Will Power

This morning I was woken up almost an hour early by Jonas barking (he doesn't get the whole fall-back time change thing). So I threw on some clothes, forgetting my glasses, and ran outside to lock him in the garage (and hopefully shut him up long enough for me to get some more sleep!). Thankfully, he only barked a bit and then calmed down for the next hour, but I was unable to fall back asleep. Instead, as I was laying in bed, I started to crave chocolate covered donuts and strawberry milk. So, I get myself out of bed, walk the dog so he doesn't freak out all morning long, and then make a run to satisfy my weird craving. Meanwhile, I remembered that my fave pretzels are now available in a new flavor - Snyders buffalo wing pretzel pieces - so of course, I had to grab a bag of those, and then Rold Gold fudge dipped pretzels caught my eye, so in the cart they went, too! Yikes! The guy checking me out even commented on my odd array of food items - buffalo pretzels, chocolate pretzels, chocolate donuts, and strawberry milk. I should have told him that this is what pregnancy does to you. You have no control over your random food cravings - I'm still riding the hot and spicy and super sweet cravings, and probably will be until Baby Uno arrives. Oh, and did I neglect to mention that I also ended up with a bag of Halloween candy that was 50% off - all the yummy Willy Wonka faves (nerds, sweet tarts, laffy taffy, and runts), plus 2 more bags of caramels, just in case my caramel craving comes back...

Crazy Night at the Bank!

What a game! A ridiculous amount of penalties, but at this point, a victory is a victory! After the student section (not including us) started chanting "We want Gray" to start things off, I was very excited to see Weber throw a huge TD pass to Bennett, followed by another TD after a recovered fumble on the kickoff! What a way to shut those idiots up! As an added bonus, even though it was still only in the 30s and it was a night game, it was still warmer in the stadium than the last two games!
