My hubby, the vinter...

The hubby bought a winemaking kit this weekend at Northern Brewer, along with an ingredient kit to make a California Trinity red wine - a meritage style blend. So, we're officially making our first bath of wine - it's fermenting in our dining room (it gurgles periodically and I'm pretty sure Syd is trying to figure out what's making the new noise!). We'll see how it goes - David is already talking about how he plans on expanding the operation...oh and Mia was fascinated with the setup - she promptly fell asleep in her sling!

Amelia Update

Now that we've been living with Amelia for 2 1/2 weeks already, I figured it's time to talk a bit about our life with a baby (or lack thereof). David has slowly started going back to work this week, which I think he's actually kind of happy about (he was getting a little stir-crazy at home). Meanwhile, me and the baby are hanging out and getting used to our new routine together - mostly she eats, we hang out on the couch together while she's awake, and then when she falls asleep I attempt to shower, clean, do laundry or dishes, and take care of other random things around the house before finally succumbing to a nap myself. If I had more energy, I think I'd be ready to start working on some reading/researching for work, but for now that will have to wait. My brain capacity has diminished simply due to lack of sleep!

On another front, I think we may have found a daycare for Mia for when I head back to work - it's been a little stressful interviewing potential homes to put our child in, but I think we've found one that will be convenient and we can feel comfortable with. Ask me what I think of this in a few weeks when I actually have to leave her there...

We're continually amazed at how much she grows and changes every day! She already has completely changed looks from when we first met her - she's definitely filling out as she puts weight on. She's extremely alert - she follows our voices and, to some extent, our faces and she enjoys being sung to or danced with by both mommy and daddy. My favorite thing may be when she puckers up her mouth - I keep meaning to get a picture of it, but haven't been successful thus far. She gets the hiccups all of the time (which also happened in utero), and it tends to make her quite upset - she seems to think that we should be able to do something to make them stop. Already it appears that she's starting to outgrow some of her newborn outfits, but I think it'll be awhile yet before she actually needs to move into the next size up. She's quite strong - she pushes off with her legs when she gets worked up and she needs to have her arms free when she sleeps so that she can suck on her fingers (she prefers her pointer finger to her thumb at this point) when she wakes up. We can't wait to see what each new day will bring!

With that, I'll leave you with some photos from my phone...

Busy Day

Yesterday was a busy day - we had Erin and Lucas over to visit in the morning, then after lunch the three of us headed to Har Mar mall to do some walking - testing out the new stroller for the first time, then we interviewed a potential day care that evening. It continues to amaze me how much extra time is required to head anywhere with a baby! Other than that, we're just getting settled into some semblance of a routine. Daddy starts to gradually go back to work this week - only a few admin hours tomorrow and then a partial shift and an evening department meeting on Thursday, and then he's off again for 4 days. It should be interesting for Amelia and I to learn how to venture out on our own over the next couple of weeks (otherwise Mommy is going to go stir-crazy!).

Happy 1 week Mia, Happy 28 years Mommy!

Had a wonderful birthday yesterday - along with celebrating one full week with our new baby girl! I had four requests - 1) to have pastries from Taste of Scandinavia for breakfast (David ran out and got some), 2) to take a long shower that allows me time to shave my legs (check), 3) to leave the house at some point - hadn't left since Tuesday (we ran to Target with the baby - especially interesting to figure out how to mount the baby carseat on the cart since ours is backwards from everyone else! - felt like we had the baby on display since she had to face out!), and 4) to have beer and pizza and enjoy the company of some good friends (check!).

Syd and Baby Mia

Whew! What a whirlwind it's been!

Come home, sleepless night with crying (screaming) baby, baby doc visit, more feeding with less crying, Uncle Danimal meets Mia, grandma Karen comes to visit, finally feel like we can maybe catch our breaths after a few days at home! More photos...

Amelia Evyn is Here!

Last night, after a long day of pitocin drips, an epidural that thankfully led to a quick dilation from 4-10, and then some pretty intense pushing, we welcomed baby Uno into the world at 6:33pm. She weighed 7.0 lbs and was 20.5 inches long. After a little deliberation, we named her Amelia Evyn - Amelia is a Cole family name (my mom's paternal grandmother) and Evyn is short for Evelyn, my grandma on my dad's side. We think it - and she - are perfect! Here's a few pics to get you guys started....

Here we go!

We're in the hospital after my water broke early this morning - started on pitocin a bit ago, so things are starting to go!
