Merry Christmas from us to you!

Photo created on Shutterfly.com

Just wanted to give a quick update before I sign off for the holidays. For those of you that gave lots of great advice on how to help Mia sleep better, thank you! For the past few weeks we've all been sleeping much better. We made a few slight changes, most importantly we moved up her bedtime so that she's now going down closer to 7:30pm instead of 9:30pm, and she's sleeping much better! She's still getting up once to nurse, but we'll work on ending that shortly after Christmas as we try to decrease/end the nursing altogether. Plus, we found out the main catalyst behind her bad sleeping - she had her first molar break through! I think she's already working on another one, so we're hoping that the new sleeping routine helps this one go more smoothly. Meanwhile, I cannot believe how much she's changed and grown up in the past month! She's talking (hi, daddy, doggy, kitty, Jonas, and now Cali, which is one of her friends at daycare!). Still no "mama," but I'm trying to be patient. She's also started standing up on her own, but hasn't attempted too many steps - unless you count crawling up the stairs, which she's also figured out how to do (yikes!).

We're looking forward to heading down to our parents' homes for the Christmas weekend, then it's back up to work (or work from home in my case as the U is shutting down for a furlough period between Christmas and New Years), and then it's party time at Laura and Gabe's for New Year's Eve and Mia's first birthday party on the 2nd! Until then, have a wonderful Christmas everyone!

So excited for Christmas!

Even the baby is getting caught up in the Christmas excitement! We'll be heading out of town in just 5 days to celebrate Christmas with our families!

Working at home today, but took a break from the writing to shoot some photos, attempting to catch some cool Christmas light bokeh (the blurriness in the background seen in some photos). Here's my favorite shot!

O Christmas Tree...

I missed posting these pics a couple of weeks ago - we were too busy taking Mia's 11 month photos and trying to get the tree and house decorated that weekend. Every year we walk the half-block down to a tree lot and pick out our Christmas tree and then David carries it home. Normally it's just me walking behind him, laughing because it's quite the sight. This year, however it was me, the baby, and my camera, because I decided I needed a good photo of the event. Can't believe we're already half way through December - and Christmas is next week!

We are literally snowed in this weekend! In my 10+ years of living in the twin cities, I have never been actually snowed in (I was snowed in quite often down on the farm while growing up, but that was usually due to blowing snow and whiteout conditions - this is due to sheer quantity of snow!). Luckily, we were prepared and made a big batch of creamy chicken and wild rice soup in the crockpot, watched a lot of How I Met Your Mother, addressed Christmas cards, and made hot mulled red wine to enjoy. This morning we're waking up to news that the Viking's Metrodome has collapsed (or was deflated purposely due to snow, that is unclear at this point) and the game has been postponed until tomorrow night (although getting the dome ready in that period of time should be interesting!). So on tap for today? Address birthday invites, wrap the rest of the Christmas gifts, do some baking, and probably watch some more How I Met Your Mother! I'm sure as hell not watching the Packers game that they've decided to play during our time slot!

Here are some photos of the snow - taken through our windows. If you look closely, you can see our Star Tribune Sunday paper laying on the pile of snow at what used to be our driveway!

Oh, and Mia decided she was going to open up one of her Christmas gifts yesterday - and since we were snowed in, we figured, why not? The opening process was pretty funny - Syd had pulled the bow off overnight, which she found and played with for awhile, but then she started pulling at the paper which had been previously ripped. She then proceeded to pull off tiny pieces of paper for the next 20-30 minutes until most of it was uncovered. She would pull one off and then hand it to me. Once we got it opened up, she enjoyed playing with all of the brightly colored blocks!

11 months down, 1 more to go!

Can't believe this is the last month before our baby girl turns ONE YEAR OLD! The year as seriously flown by! Just for fun, I'm including a photo of me (and Mia, technically) from 1 year ago...

One year ago this weekend, I had one of my best friends, Kate, in town to visit and she graciously offered to help me put up all of my Christmas decorations - and she came with David and I to pick out our tree! Since I'm in the middle of an actual decoration disaster over here, and I'm currently watching Mia dig through her presents, which are in a pile waiting to be wrapped, I am sincerely missing the extra help! :)

The past month marks Amelia's 8th tooth addition (at least I think that was this month and not the month before...teething is a constant problem over here!), more standing and cruising along furniture, much more babbling, and her first bit of actual TALKING! She said "Hi da-da" a few times over Thanksgiving vacation, and last week I picked her up from daycare and she said "Hi!" as I walked in the door! Too cool. She is tall, which means she can reach just about anything in our house. This is making decorating for Christmas even more difficult! So far, the tree is up but waiting to be decorated - she ate a few pine needles last night, but left it alone after that. We'll see how she does once the decorations are on it! We may have to progressively move all of them up the tree and out of her reach! We're still waiting to see if she'll be walking by Christmas, if not, I think she'll be pretty close. Her toys don't appeal to her much anymore, we have to hide some and reintroduce them to make them more interesting. This means that all of the pretty wrapping paper, boxes, and bows will probably be more fun for her than any of the toys that she'll get!

We took her outside after our fresh 5-6" snowfall yesterday to take some pictures for our Christmas card. I'm not sharing all of them now...need to keep some surprises up my sleeve for those of you getting cards in the mail, but here are a few of my favorites.

Dual Family Thanksgiving

My parents hosted Thanksgiving out at the farm this year for not only our family, but David's family as well! It was a great (albeit LARGE) group of people to spend the holiday with, and it kept David and I from having to travel back and forth all day long (whew!). There was way too much food (surprise, surprise) and a plethora of wine and beer (thank goodness!), and everyone mingled very well - playing pool, watching football, and playing board games in front of the fire, not to mention being entertained by Amelia's antics as she scurried about the house! Here are a few pics from the festivities...

Mia in the dress that Grandma Karen made for her - and the sweater that Great "Grandma" Pinky made!

My two favorite people!

David and Grandpa Leonard

The goose! There was a turkey on the grill and a ham for supper, but the goose is the star of the show for our family holidays!

Great Grandma Evie had the sweet touch - she was the only one that could get Amelia to go down for a nap!

Way too many choices for dessert!

Mia with both of her grandmas!

Note: Amelia is 11 months old today! Photos and an update on the past month coming soon!
