A Day (or two) in the Life of Amelia

Climb the stairs.
Check out this cool pink thing I like to hang around my neck. (Don't worry, mommy and daddy don't let me play with it unattended!)

Steal mommy's camera lens cap.
Here mommy, let me put this back on for you!
Hang out in a box! Why not?

First Oreo

She only got a few bits and pieces from mommy's Oreo, but she liked it, as is evidenced by her face.

Video update

Mia is climbing the stairs - and not just one or two at a time - she's half-way up our stairs before we notice! Since the bottom half of our stairs are open, we can't just put a baby gate up to block them off, so we've had to prop the pack 'n play across the bottom steps to keep her off of them.

Playing peek-a-boo with daddy - she likes to "scare" daddy.

Walking! Although she took a few steps at the end of December, in the past few days she's finally started truly walking. She'll take 5-7 steps and sit down, but then she gets right back up and tries again! She's also much more steady all of a sudden - it's pretty crazy to watch the process. I don't have a good video of her walking on her own yet, but here is a video of her walking behind her new walker.

9Tomorrows CD Release Party

My little brother's new band, 9Tomorrows, had their CD release party at the Loft at (above) Barfly in downtown Mpls Saturday night. After wavering back and forth on whether or not we should go (and attempting to find, finding, and then releasing a babysitter), the hubby told me to go on my own. He even called up Laura and Gabe last minute and asked them to give me a ride, so I wouldn't have to drive by myself! It was awesome to make it to the show, but I felt bad leaving him behind! The show itself was fantastic - Matt Dodge and the Lobsters, Maria Isa, and Parallax all played in addition to 9Tomorrows. Although I missed Parallax at the end of the show, the rest of the bands/performers were awesome! I'm looking forward to finding a babysitter for the end of January, so that both the hubby and I can catch a full 9Tomorrows show at Bayside!

If you're interested, check out their website (designed by Gabe!) to see upcoming shows, listen to their music, or even purchase the new album!

Sorry to Stephen's friend, AnnMarie, from whom I stole the photo from the actual show - I didn't take my camera along!

First steps!

I almost forgot that we caught Mia's first few steps on video! She was so excited (probably because we were so excited), so she takes a step or two towards daddy and collapses giggling. She hasn't done much walking since then, so we'll see when she decides to start walking for good!

My baby girl is ONE!

I cannot believe how quickly the last year has flown by! A year ago today we were heading home with our new baby girl, it was insanely cold outside - so much so that the Xterra refused to start after having sat out in the cold parking ramp for a few days, and we had NO idea what we had just gotten ourselves into! One year later, we can barely remember what life was like without our precious daughter. Being a parent has completely and irrevocably changed my life, and I couldn't be happier!

Since we don't have any friends in the area with babies, we threw a big party for Amelia that consisted of our families and a few of our closest friends - which totaled around 20 people! It was a great day - we had tons of food, including chili and purple cupcakes, we watched the last Vikings game, we enjoyed some of David's homemade wine, and Amelia got to wear her new purple and blue tutu, open a ridiculous amount of gifts, eat her first cupcake, and then crash for a quick 20 minute catnap to recover from it all! And although it took us over 3 full days to prepare for the event, and over 3 hours to clean up after it, we wouldn't have done it any differently! (Throwing a party with a kid around is a much harder task than I anticipated!)

The last month has brought on even more changes, but most importantly, she took her first steps! She had been standing up on her own more frequently, and finally, we were able to coax her into taking her first few tentative steps towards us! She hasn't repeated the process too much, but we're working on it. She has started bear crawling, which I think is an indicator that she doesn't want to be on her knees as much. And since she's so quick at crawling, I'm terrified to see how quickly she starts moving once she's up and running! (Our daycare lady was just commenting this morning how QUICK she is crawling!) Also this month, she started crawling stairs. She learned quickly at my parents' farm, where there are two low steps down into the living room, and she then proceeded to crawl up a few stairs at David's parents' cabin. Lucky for us, she's hasn't done much crawling on our steps yet, but I'm sure that will come soon enough. She's chatting all of the time, even if we can't understand her yet. She still really hasn't said mommy, although she woke us up last night and we both thought she was crying mommy, so maybe she's close!

On the food front, she eats just about anything, but she loves pasta and sandwiches (which we break into pieces for her). She just ate her first whole banana - by chewing off little bites just like adults do! She doesn't really care about food utensils yet, she's all about eating with her fingers (or her face, as you can see in her birthday cupcake photos!). She's not loving her veggies as much anymore and instead prefers fruits to just about anything else. She's also started on whole milk (which we've dubbed "moo milk") and seems to be doing okay with that.

I can't wait to see what the next year brings!
