Mia's FOURTH birthday!

Our baby girl turned FOUR this month and it's hard to believe how we got here already! On the day of her birthday, David and I took the day off and took Fynn to daycare so we could spend the day with just her. We took her to her first movie at the theater - Frozen - which was so much fun! She was in awe at the big screen and loved the movie itself! We ate popcorn and Skittles and had a blast! Then we went out to lunch - based on her choice of quesadillas, we hit up La Casita. They had a kids menu that included frosted drinks, so she had a blue raspberry drink with an umbrella in it and she loved it! Then it was back home for a nap, then supper and cupcake/cake making time!

 Her first microscope!
She was really excited about her princess Sophia doll from nana and papa B!
David was on paper duty as Fynn put every piece in his mouth!

After skimping on a birthday party last year, while I was pregnant with Fynn, we hosted a party down at nana and papa EIO's lake house the next night for the combined family and some friends. Of course, it was Sophia the First themed! We decorated tiaras, played games, ate lots of pizza and cake, and enjoyed the time together. Mia was in full costume for the thing, until she opened a gift containing new Sophia pjs - she was ecstatic! I was going to make purple cupcakes, but she decided (last minute, after seeing a photo that I had pinned on Pinterest) that she wanted a princess cake. So we picked up a bundt cake pan, attempted to dye yellow cake mix purple (it didn't work so well!), then ended up buying a bunch of purple frosting on our way out of town as I realized I didn't have any butter in my house to make the buttercream frosting I had planned on! All in all, it worked out just fine and she liked her princess cake! Her and Jenna had a fabulous time playing together and we had to pry them away from each other at the end of the night!

Mia has grown 4 inches (or so) in the past year! She's getting tall and big and just looks like a big kid now, no longer my baby girl. She's loving preschool - she started going twice a week to Hand in Hand, the daycare center at Concordia. She's loving it enough that she wants to go full-time and when I was attempting to explain to her that daddy and I needed to figure out money and the situation with her current day care provider, she said "Mommy! I know! I have that dollar bill, plus money in my piggy bank, so I can pay for preschool!" It nearly broke my heart. She then proceeded to find those thing as soon as we got home and didn't understand why she couldn't go back to preschool the next day. Needless to say, we'll be figuring out a plan to get her full-time soon!
She's obviously into Princess Sophia, still likes Minnie and Mickey (but definitely not like she used to) and likes Doc McStuffins, Sheriff Callie, and Word Girl. She's definitely in the princess stage and loves all of the Disney princess movies and dressing up like a princess. She's also going through a no jeans stage! She just wants to wear comfy pants and leggings, which is a bummer since I have some super cute jeans that I found for her. Since I'm currently typing this in my sweats, I can understand. She's getting more into having her hair done and wearing headbands and bows (yesterday, she picked out her Christmas dress to wear to church and then added a headband and a big Gophers hair bow!). She's getting pickier about what she eats, which is frustrating for us, but luckily we can usually depend on some standards (hot dogs/corn dogs, potstickers, chicken fries, mac and cheese, quesadillas, cheese tacos). She would eat frozen mango and avacado by the ton (both were favorites as a baby, so I find it fascinating that she still loves them!). She's got a bad spot of eczema on the back of her leg and proceeds to show it to people whenever she gets the chance (sometimes this is at swimming so she's already in her swimsuit, but other times she just drops her pants to show it off!). Speaking of swimming, lessons have started back up for her and her confidence in the water was immediately leaps and bounds ahead of where she was at last year! She's jumping in, swimming as much on her own as daddy will let her, and loving every minute of it! (Fynn is also taking 'lessons' and almost fell asleep in the water on his first day!) She's also still in dance, but she doesn't seem to like that one nearly as much - although I can't tell if it's because it's more structured and she's will older girls or if it's because we can't stay and watch like we can with swimming and gymnastics. We're going to make it through this year and re-evaluate if she wants to do it again next year. She'll definitely do gymnastics again this summer as she keeps talking about it! We're hoping to also get her into some other sports this summer, too. She still loves doing science experiments with mom (or dad, as was the case this weekend), and she got her first microscope from us for her birthday. It's so much fun to encourage her curiosity!

She would go outside and play every day if we let her - she LOVES the snow! Unfortunately, the weather has been so cold that it's hard to get much time outside - and made harder when there's only one parent around to field both kids outside! She got a sled for Christmas and has enjoyed going sledding a couple of times since then. She, of course, has no fear and will catapult herself down the steepest hill she can find!

She still loves reading books, and frequently requests extra books every night before bed. She still loves Piglet and has made multiple wishes (blowing out candles on her birthday cake, tossing pennies in a fountain) that Piglet would become real and play with her. (Yes, this breaks my heart!) She's also started wishing that Fynn were big enough to play with her, so at least that one will come true soon enough! She moved into her own bedroom on the main level and has helped me to decorate and organize it - and is very specific about what she wants in it and where! Currently she has Sophia stickers all over, construction paper garland and number 4s from her birthday decorations, paper lanterns that she made in preschool, and a couple of princess Sophia birthday banners on her walls! She said, with each new addition, that it was finally feeling like 'her room' instead of the office. She's such a good big sister - she watches Fynn for us, gets hims cheeries or puffs or a pacifier, plays with him (and then usually ends up stealing whatever they were playing with - so we're working on sharing a bit right now!), and loves making him laugh. I can't believe how quickly time is moving - before we know it she's going to be in SCHOOL for real!
She made me play-doh cookies for my birthday!
 Nutella face!
This is what happens when it gets too quiet in our house...

Fynn's 10 month photos

He LOVED grandma and grandpa's new steps at the lake house - me, not so much!
